Top 5 Rated Table Saws – Which Quality Power Tool Fits your Needs? Print E-mail
Written by Mike C.

There are many table saws available on the market today.  We found these to be the top five based on real consumer ratings and their personal experiences purchasing portable table saws .  Whether you go to your closest Sears store or buy from a great selection at Amazon or other online store, prices will vary.  Based on these reviews, Bosch and DeWalt are the most popular brands for quality power tools.

#1 - Bosch 4100-09 10-Inch Worksite Table Saw with Gravity Rise Stand

Although this portable table saw is a bit on the expensive side (approximately $550 to $600), consumers tend to agree that the price is well worth it due to its safety and convenience features, which include:

  • 10-inch Cutting Table

  • 15 Amp (3,650 rpm)

  • Gravity Rise Stand

  • Pneumatic Wheels

  • SquareLock Rip Fence

  • T-slot Miter Gauge

  • Smart Guard System

  • 5/8-inch Arbor

  • Bevel Cut Capability (-2 to 47 degrees)

  • 99 Pounds (Saw and Stand)

  • 1-year Limited Warranty

  • 30 Day Money Back Guarantee

  • 1-year Buyer Protection Program

The stand is approximately three inches taller than the average table saw making it easier for set up. The soft start feature helps to prevent overload. Storage is not an issue with its collapsible design.  The 8-inch pneumatic wheels allow you to move it over rough terrain around the job site; however, people have remarked that the wheels are not large enough to be carried over stairs.  If you need to transfer it over stairs, expect to scrape the metal bars behind the wheels.

The rip fence ensures that the grain of the wood is lined up for a clean cut.  This is important because cutting across the grain or at an angle can cause kickbacks, which can be dangerous.   Consumers report the rip fence on this table saw does glide smoothly and does lock into place.

People tend to purchase the Bosch 4100-09 for the safety features allowing you to see better reducing the risk for kickbacks and blade contact.  It has a three-piece system, which includes a riving knife, blade guard, and anti-kickback pawls.  There are no tools needed to install this system.

There were some complaints on the blade bevel adjustment.  In order to change the angle of the blade, you have to unlock the lever.  The blade and motor assembly flop around.  You then push it to where you want it to be and tighten the clamping lever.  Although this design could be more stable, people still agree that this one is worth the investment.

#2 - DeWalt DW745  10-inch Compact Job-Site Table Saw with 16-Inch Max Rip

This is one of the most popular table saws available due to its portability, rack and pinion fence design, and price (approximately $370) as well as its other features:

  • 10-inch Cutting Table

  • 15 Amp (3,850 rpm)

  • 16-inch Rip Capacity

  • Site Pro Modular Guarding System

  • Dust Collection Port

  • 24-Tooth Carbide Blade Miter Gauge

  • Push Stick

  • Blade Guard

  • 45 Pounds (Saw only)

  • 3-year Limited Warranty

  • 90 Day Money Back Guarantee

  • 1-year Buyer Protection Plan

Consumers love the dust collection port.  Simply place your shop vac hose over the dust chute and motor.  The roll bars on the bottom help with transporting.  There are some complaints about the quality of the miter gauge and the fact that it does not lock onto the saw for storage.

The Site Pro Modular Guarding System provides increased visibility providing the safest results.  It is a three-part modular system that includes:  rise and fall riving knife, anti-kickback pawls, and top guards.  This system does not require any tools to install.  Some consumers feel the guard assembly materials are too thin.

There are complaints that the integral splitter within the guard assembly will not stay tight and tightening it requires you to remove the throat plate.  Although a bit inconvenient, it appears that overall, the DW745 portable saw is recommended by consumers.

#3 – DeWalt DW744XRS 10-inch Job Site Table Saw with Rolling Stand

This table saw is a bit higher priced than the DW745 at approximately $610.  However, it does have a higher rip capacity as well as many other features:

  • 10-inch Cutting Table

  • 15 Amp (3,650 rpm)

  • 24 ½ inch Rip Capacity

  • Site Pro Modular Guarding System

  • Telescoping Fence Rails

  • Rolling Table Saw

  • Dust Collection Port

  • 24-Tooth Carbide Blade Miter Gauge

  • 58 Pounds (saw)  33 Pounds (rolling stand)

  • 3-year Limited Warranty

  • 1-year Service Plan

  • 90-day Money Back Guarantee

This is a heavy duty, yet portable saw.  The rolling stand makes this perfect for the job-site with its heavy duty wheels; however, it does add weight.  The rails can move out to 24 inches due to its telescoping design, which allows you to rip full sheets of material.  However, consumers feel the table is too small for full size sheets.

Consumers do suggest that you check the miter gauge for accuracy prior to use.   Although it is supposed to already be calibrated, it can be off.  This is a minor fix by simply adjusting it.  There are also complaints that the miter gauge slot is not a standard T-slot, so it can easily pop out of place.

The dust collection port is a nice addition; however, you will need to clean it often as the hose attachment is small and clogs easily.

#4 – DeWalt DW788 1.3 Amp 20-inch Variable Speed Scroll Saw

This scroll saw is designed for more intricate woodworking.  Its unique double parallel link arm design reduces vibration.  Here are some of the other features:

  • Motor is 1.3 Amp (400 to 1,750 strokes per minute)

  • Electronic Variable Speed

  • Tool Free Blade Clamps

  • Oversized Cast Iron Table

  • Dust Blower

  • 56 Pounds

  • 3-year Limited Warranty

  • 1-year Service Plan

  • 90-day Money Back Guarantee

The arm pivots from the back to the front, which shortens the distance it needs to move.  This provides a smoother motion reducing vibration for more accurate cuts.  The dust blower is helpful at keeping sawdust off so you can continue to work.

The oversized table helps keep your work from hanging off of the edge while you are cutting.  The fact that the controls are upfront makes it easier to apply tension.  The tension lever is numbered allowing for more accurate measurements.  Overall, consumers agree this is an effective tool for scrolling.  It costs approximately $500.  This seems high, but surprisingly there were not many complaints about the price.

#5 – Bosch GTS1031 10-inch Portable Job Site Table Saw

This portable table saw appears to be a favorite for many consumers at approximately $370.  The fact that it has a bevel adjustment past the average 45 degree angle is a plus.  Here are some other features:

  • 10-inch Cutting Table

  • 15 Amp (5,000 rpm)

  • 18-inch Rip Capacity

  • Smart Guard System

  • SquareLock Rip Fence

  • One Handed Carry Handle

  • Under Tool Storage

  • Lightweight All Steel Base

  • Miter Gauge

  • Push Stick
    Blade Wrenches

  • 24 Tooth Carbide Tipped Blade

  • Dust Chute Clear out

  • 52 pounds

  • 1-year Warranty

Consumer reviews show this table saw is durable.  It does not wobble and has a lot of power, even after years of use.  It provides accurate, clean rips and crosscuts and provides a nice finish.  It only takes about 15 minutes to assemble.  The bag that attaches to the exhaust collects wood shavings for easy clean-up.

There were some complaints about the quality; however, others reported that the special materials used for this portable table saw were designed to keep down the weight.  However, metal was used where it needed to be for durability.
