Introduction Rockwell is a reasonably prolific company when it comes to putting out products that people love to purchase. Their Sonicrafter product line has drawn rave reviews from many sections and this review looks at the RK5102K, arguably one of the lynchpin products in that line. First Impressions Rockwell’s products are generally visually appealing and this is certainly the case with the RK5102K as well. In fact, if you purchase the deluxe set for this product that comes with 72 different pieces that you can use to customize your Sonicrafter, you might just get a feeling of pure awe by staring at everything the product comes with. This is certainly one of the more versatile products on the market today, but when it comes to power tools, it takes a lot more than versatility to impress a person that knows something about them. Multitasking Prowess One of the major advantages that the RK5102K has going for it is the fact that it is a product that can be used for intense multitasking. You can use this product to cut, smooth, sand, edge and just about any other type of work that involves removing, refining or finishing a surface. Because of the large number of different tool bits that come with the RK5102K in the deluxe version that is available for purchase right now, you can easily call this product a total package in one. It has everything you could possibly need in order to get started in your handiwork projects and for that reason it is great to purchase as a starter tool. You can use this generally versatile tool until your budget and/or skill level dictate that you need something more specialized and then slowly supplant the different uses of the RK5102K with tools that have just that single purpose in mind. Ease of Use The ease of use of the RK5102K is probably best concluded to be a draw. The two main aspects of ease of use relate to switching between different bits and carrying the tool around. In terms of switching between different bits, the process could not be easier. It is quite easy to cut a major surface and then swap the blade out for a sander in order to finish the job. When it comes to carrying it around however, the 7 pound package can make for a little bit of annoyance, especially if you need to bring a bunch of bits along to finish the job as well. This is not a problem if you plan to work out of your garage, but it is a problem if you were hoping to go portable with your RK5102K. Final Thoughts Overall, the RK5102K is most definitely a product worth looking at. People that are looking for portability in their power tools should seriously consider another option because of the relatively heavy weight the RK5102K has when compared to power tools built specifically for portability. For everyone else however, this is a strong recommendation because the good points are overwhelmingly conclusive in its favour. |
