A power drill is easily one of the core elements of any handyperson’s toolkit when it comes to power tools. It is usually one of the first power tools a person purchases and for that reason there are many of them available right now from many different companies. More recent is the development of compact drills that have the ability to reach into tighter and more cramped areas and this product from Milwaukee is a compact drill that specializes in doing exactly that. The ability to reach into cramped areas is perhaps its signature feature, with the added convenience elements being a close second. Reaching into tight quarters The overall length of the Milwaukee compact drill is a little less than 8 inches when all is said and done. Another way to think about that is that a standard elementary and/or high school ruler is 12 inches, so if you were to take 2/3 of the length of a standard ruler, you would have the length of this particular compact drill. By the standards of normal drill sizes, that is absolutely tiny. Furthermore, the drill only weighs about four pounds with everything loaded and ready to go, so not only are you able to reach into tight areas with the small length of this drill, but you can also hold it up at a strange angle for a much longer time because of how lightweight it is. Some compact drills forget about the importance of having a light weight when working at strange angles or within tight quarters, but the designers at Milwaukee got that part absolutely right when they designed this product. Convenience At the same time that they were coming up with ways to make this drill as compact and lightweight as possible, the product’s designers were also interested in making it one of the most convenient products on the market. To that end, there are many extra features on this product that are there for no other reason than to increase its overall convenience rating. The two speeds that the drill can run on are an example of such a convenience-increasing feature, allowing you to fine-tune the drill to your specifications. There is also an LED affixed to the drill that allows you to illuminate the area in front of the drill and see where you are drilling. Finally, there is a built-in hooking mechanism that allows you to attach the drill directly to your belt which in turn allows you to have both of your hands available for the pre-positioning steps that lead up to the actual drilling. When all of these aspects of the drill are added together, the end result is something spectacular insofar as convenience is concerned. Final Thoughts It really is unfortunate that the Milwaukee 2601-22 compact drill is not more popular, because it certainly deserves to be. This one is a strong recommendation to anyone that is relatively new to drilling and works in a lot of confined areas. For people that specialize in those types of projects, this is easily one of the best drills on the market. |
