Why a Ground Level Deck? There are many different types of decks that you can build, not just a ground level deck. In fact, there are other designs you might opt for if you could see them when you build a deck. Ground level decks however are decks that are the easiest to build and have the fewest considerations to them. For someone that is not very experienced in this type of construction, building ground level deck designs is therefore the only one that is recommended as the others could force you to run into complications you would never see with ground level decks.
The Planking
There are many different styles that you can use when you learn how to build a ground level deck and to a certain degree the different considerations are artistic differences that you need to research and decide on completely on your own for best results. However, pretty much all ground level decking uses planks and there are many different plank materials that you can use. Wood is the most common planking material, but you need to make sure it has been treated against outdoor wear and tear before you use it. You will also need to maintain it regularly to make sure that your ground level deck plans accurately reflect the reality of your deck for many years to come. You can also use composite materials that are a mixture of wood and plastic or vinyl PVC decking that costs a bit more but lasts a lot longer. You can also use aluminum for the planking should you wish.
The Adhesion
Many of the people that start working on a deck from scratch decide that they will use nails to hammer the planks into the foundation and secure the foundation to the ground. While there is nothing wrong with nails in the short term, over the course of years with the force acting on them from the Earth's surface they will wear and be pulled out, causing the deck to fall apart. Using screws on the other hand with screw holders in the ground will make sure that the deck is always tied to the ground and that in turn will ensure that your ground level deck remains in good quality for a lot longer; especially with routine maintenance.
Conclusion
Building a ground level deck does not have to be a difficult task, but it is one that requires a lot of strength, a lot of endurance and a lot of planning. Make sure that you have all three in large supply before you embark on this task. |
