Wall cleaning is not a difficult process and will keep your home looking and feeling fresh and clean. You don’t have to live with those crayon marks or dirty handprints. Here are some tips to get those walls clean. Sell also how to remove wallpaper.

The Best Method for Wall Cleaning

Wall cleaning has a backwards approach to it. You would think you would clean from the top down. However, in wall cleaning, you need to clean from the bottom to the top. This is necessary for preventing drips and streaks on the dirty parts of the wall. This makes it harder to remove the dirt.

A professional mop that you can purchase from your local janitorial supply store will save you time and back aches. You can cover more space, with greater force. You may even avoid climbing on ladders to reach the top.

If the wall has painted plaster, do not scrub. This will rub off the paint and you will be stuck with a painting project, instead of a wall cleaning project. If there is mainly just dust on the walls, consider using a dry cloth or those new dusters found in stores. They will get the majority of the dust.

If the wall has not been painted, you cannot use anything to clean it. The liquid would remove the plaster or texture. There are times when walls are not painted, especially in modern new homes. If this is the case, you will need to prime the walls with a less expensive latex flat paint, and then paint with two coats of the higher quality paint.

Best Things to Use for Wall Cleaning

Water will generally get most of the dirt and debris off of the walls. If possible, just use plain water because it dries without leaving a film and you don’t have to rinse. This makes your wall cleaning job that much easier.

  • Fels Naptha soap, washing soda, and borax laundry soap – dilute in hot water and wash with a sponge. Do not do big areas at a time. Wipe immediately with a terry towel to prevent streaks.
  • Paste of baking soda works great on tough spots. It is also known to remove crayon, pencil, ink, and other stains on contact. Rinse with a rag dipped in plain water.
  • Murphy’s Oil Soap
  • Trisodium Phosphate (TSP) – heavy duty cleaner
  • Mr. Clean Magic Eraser – great for tough spots, such as dirty baseboard or oil on walls
  • SOS Pad – Use this to pre-spot nicotine stains and then wash walls down

Cleaning walls is an easy project that will leave you feeling fresh and clean.
