The Man Cave is a sacred place in the home where a man can go to get away from the rest of the world. It is the man’s special place where no-one is allowed in the household, unless otherwise invited. It is the place where he is allowed to do whatever it is he wants without the nagging of a wife or the whining of kids. This is the place where the boys can be boys, and they can be left alone while they have a cold beer while watching the big game or while doing whatever their hobby is. Be sure to see finishing a basement in 6 planning stages.
These simple steps will get you on your way to making the ultimate man cave:
- Determine where your man cave will be. Will it be in the basement, in the garage, or in another room in the house?
- Decide on a theme. Determine this by going with your hobby. Are you a sports fanatic, or are you more of an outdoorsman. Fill up your man cave with sports memorabilia or with some hunting items. This is your place and you can decorate it however you want.
- Now it is time to start filling up your room with electronics, furniture, etc. The pride of every man cave is the television. You can go all out and get that 60 inch flat screen with surround sound, or you may only be able to afford a smaller one. Regardless, your man cave will need some form of television! Music is also a must for the man cave.
- Make sure the lighting does not glare on the television.
- If you have windows, be sure to protect electronics in cabinets behind glass doors.
- Furniture is part of the home designs for men. What you put in your man cave will depend on what type of personality you have. If you are more of a social person, then you will want to have a couch of some type. Sectionals are great for a man cave. If you do not want too many people coming into your “space”, then a recliner will do.
- There are many home designs for men that will work for your man cave. Once you have your entertainment and furniture, you will want to tend to the floor and walls. Do you want carpet, wood flooring, or do you just want to leave it as is and spend your money on the more important aspects of your man cave, like the entertainment parts!
- Every man cave would benefit from a refrigerator and microwave. Consider adding in a bathroom, if possible.
- Put on a lock. This is what makes your man cave truly yours. It is what will ensure that the kids and wife stays out while you are relaxing in your man cave.
Just a note: You can spend thousands of dollars or just a little bit. You can start slow and add on. The important thing is to have your space and that everyone knows this is your space.
