Crystal Chandelier Repair Steps

It is possible to repair a crystal chandelier. If you have a beautiful crystal chandelier that has a broken arm that has snapped, you do not have to part with it. There are some steps you can take to repair your special crystal chandelier.

Crystal Chandelier Repair Tools and Materials

  • 6 by 6 inch block of craft foam

  • Metal hanging wire

  • Needle nose pliers

  • Instant glass glue

  • Small utility knife

Crystal Chandelier Repair Steps

  1. Place the crystal chandelier on a flat and stable work surface.  Make sure the work surface will be away from traffic for at least 24 to 36 hours.

  2. With a small utility knife, carve out an arm that resembles and conforms with an undamaged crystal chandelier arm.

  3. Lay out the broken crystal chandelier arm piece into the craft foam block.  Gently push down the broken edge of the crystal arm up against the chandelier base.   Make sure the broken edges will fit together.  If they don’t, adjust the foam block so the two broken pieces match perfectly.

  4. Make sure the craft foam piece is strong enough to support the arm while it is being glued to the crystal chandelier base.  If it does not seem like it will support it, you will need to use a metal hanging wire along with the craft foam.  This will help to hold the broken crystal arm in a secure position while it dries.

  5. To secure the arm with a metal wire, twist it around the loose part of the broken crystal arm.  Twist the wire around the chandelier top for support of the broken crystal arm piece.

  6. Before applying the glue, untwist any wires that are restricting the broken arm piece from moving.  Push the craft foam piece back from the base about ½ an inch.

  7. Apply instant glass glue to the broken edges of the chandelier crystal arm.  Fit the broken arm piece to the broken edge on the base.  Make sure they line up evenly.

  8. Re-twist the metal wires that were used to hold the arm in place.  Make sure the craft foam is positioned securely underneath the arm.

  9. Allow instant glass glue to dry for at least 24 hours.  36 hours will ensure the glue has cured and hardened.  Remove the metal wires and foam block after glue has dried.

Quick Cleaning Tips

Once your crystal chandelier is back in its original place, take extra care when cleaning your crystal chandelier.   Crystal chandeliers should be cleaned on a regular basis to maintain their sparkle.

Protect the floor with newspaper, a drop cloth, or towel.  With a long feather duster, dust off all the crystal chandeliers.  Try to get as much of the dust as possible off.  Spray the crystal chandeliers with glass cleaner.  In fact, it is okay to literally drench the crystals with glass cleaner.  Wait until all the liquid has trickled off.  Your crystal chandelier will look brand new again.
