Are your cabinets still in good shape, but the kitchen cabinet hardware coloring is quite a bit outdated?   Or does your kitchen cabinet hardware knob have a lot of scrapes and scratches?  Instead of going out and spending quite a bit of money on new kitchen cabinet hardware, consider giving your cabinets a face lift by painting your kitchen cabinet hardware.

Tools and Materials for Painting Kitchen Cabinet Hardware:

  • Vinegar
  • Soapy Hot water
  • Spray Primer
  • Spray Paint
  • Scrub Brush
  • Newspaper
  • Fine Grit Sandpaper
  • Screwdriver
  • Styrofoam Sheets

This Article for Painting Kitchen Cabinet Hardware is Divided into Two Sections

  1. Preparing for Painting Cabinets Hardware
  2. Painting Kitchen Cabinets Hardware

Section One:  Preparing for Painting Cabinets Hardware

  1. Unscrew cabinet’s hardware with a screwdriver.  Remove.
  2. Soak cabinet hardware knob in vinegar.  Scrub with a scrub brush.  It is possible to use ammonia based cleaners, but you must be prepared to have a lot of ventilation in the room or use a ventilator face mask.
  3. Soak in warm soapy water.  Rinse well and let dry.
  4. Use fine grit sandpaper to sand away grime or scratches.  Rinse with clean water.
  5. Allow to dry.

Section Two:  Painting Kitchen Cabinets Hardware

  1. Lay out newspaper as a work surface.  Put blocks of the Styrofoam on the newspaper.
  2. Screw the screws back into the back of the kitchen cabinet hardware.  Place it on the Styrofoam sheets and blocks.
  3. Spray kitchen cabinet hardware with a primer, which will allow the paint to stick.
  4. Allow primer to dry.
  5. Spray on a number of light coats of the color of paint you chose to cover the kitchen cabinet hardware.  This will eliminate bubbling in the paint.
  6. Allow to dry completely.
  7. Once dry, you can reattach all the kitchen cabinets hardware back by screwing them in with a screwdriver.

That is all there is to this simple task.  Remember to choose a color that will compliment your cabinets.  This do-it-yourself project is simple and quick but makes a dramatic change in the appearance of your kitchen cabinets.  Of course, the best time to paint your kitchen cabinet hardware is when you decide to stain your kitchen cabinets.  However, you do not have to wait until you have the money or time to take on such a huge project.  This is a job that can be done at anytime!
