Tips for Acquiring Energy Star Appliances
The easiest way to deal with the acquisition of Energy Star appliances is to try and phase them in. This means that whenever you would normally replace an appliance, instead of buying an energy inefficient one, try to buy one with the Energy Star logo. This way you will just be replacing your appliances at their normal rates and should not incur too much of a change in your budget as a result. For some people however, this is not really an option. Their energy costs are simply so high that they need to put in energy efficient appliances right now or they might start to go into massive amounts of debt. If this is the situation you are in, try to take a deep breath and relax. There are ways for you to get out of this mess without having to incur debt along the way. The first thing you will want to do is take a look at your federal, state and local authorities on energy to see if they have any energy rebate or tax credit programs that are geared towards the purchase of Energy Star appliances. In most cases this is true and for that reason you can get back some of the money that you choose to spend on the appliances if you need to purchase them now. This will help take some of the sting out of the Energy Star appliance costs in the immediate present and that in turn will ease some of the strain on your finances. Emulating Energy Star Appliances
If you really can not afford Energy Star appliances and you feel that it is critical to your finances to save money on energy, there are some ways for you to emulate the effects of Energy Star appliances. One way for you to save money with your refrigerator for example is to keep the coils clean and free of dust. Dust hampers the technological processes, making refrigerator devices less efficient. This can in turn result in an increase in your monthly energy costs, even though the solution is so simple. If you cover everything inside your refrigerator no matter what it is, the appliance will work less of the time as well and that in turn will save you more money until you can afford the Energy Star replacement. There are little tips like this for increasing energy efficiency in all of your appliances, even if you don't have the money to afford their Energy Star replacements just yet. Using the clothesline instead of the dryer is a good example, as is making sure that all of the loads you wash in the washing machine and dishwasher are as full as they can be. Using cool water in the washing machine means that the hot water heating is not required and that in turn saves energy. If you're smart about how you use energy, you can come very close to approximating Energy Star efficiency without needing to purchase the appliances. The added bonus of this is that when you do eventually get the money to afford the switch to Energy Star, you will multiply your savings between personal efficiency such as the tips noted above and the natural energy efficiency that Energy Star appliances bring to the table. ![]() |
