It is that time of year where the pool is popular! The pool is a great way to cool off during these hot summer months, but the pool can also be a dangerous place for children. It is enticing to little ones and needs to have a safety fence to protect those little ones from danger. Not only can a safety fence help to protect people from drowning, but it can also be a stylish addition to your pool area.

Whether you have an indoor pool or above ground pool, there is a child safety fence for your type of pool. While you will have a variety of safety pool fences to choose from, it is important to be sure you choose a fence that will actually do the job. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, this is an easy project for you. It can be done in a matter of hours. If you decide to have someone install it, the contractor will have it done in one day.

Things to Consider before and after Installing a Safety Pool Fence:

  • Child safety fence should be at least four feet tall or more.
  • Child safety fence should have a self-latching gate that children cannot open.
  • If you are using wrought iron fencing with bars, be sure the bars are spaced close together where a child cannot squeeze through.
  • A child safety fence should have locks or latches that are high enough where a child cannot reach them.
  • Do not stack things against the fence.
  • Do not put patio furniture near the fence.
  • Trim tree branches that are low enough for a child to use to climb over the fence.
  • The safety pool fence should completely enclose the swimming pool, and it should be separated from the house and play area of the yard.

While these are recommendations, it is important to check with your local code enforcement or building department to be sure you are meeting the proper building and safety codes before you actually purchase and install a child safety fence. It is also important to check to see if any permits are required.

Many Selections to choose from for a Safety Pool Fence

Safety pool fences come in many different styles. The most popular are:

  • Wood
  • Aluminum
  • Wrought Iron
  • Vinyl

Not as popular is the chain-link safety pool fence. However, there are some places that offer chain-links in different colors, such as: green, black, and bronze.

The More Permanent Safety Pool Fence

There are even more expensive safety pool fences that can be purchased, such as a brick wall or stone wall that is constructed around the pool. No matter what style you choose, it is imperative that the safety pool fence is at least four feet tall and has self-latching gates that children cannot open.

The Removable Safety Pool Fence

Removable fences are popular, as well. This type of safety pool fence is made of several different materials, such as:

  • Transparent Mesh Material
  • Aluminum Meshing Mounted in a Fiberglass
  • Aluminum Framing System

If you choose to go this route, be sure the child safety fence is fastened securely to the decking through holes that have already been drilled into the decking or with fasteners. This type of safety pool fence can come in a variety of colors.

You are now ready to enjoy a summer of fun! But remember to always take precautions, even if a child safety fence has been installed. Children simply have a way of getting into things they shouldn’t be able to.
