Walkway Lighting 2 Years, 11 Months ago

So, I have a walkway in the rear of my house that leads to a patio square. I would like to light this path, but I don't know whether to use solar powered lights or lay down an electrical line for lights. Any ideas on what the best option would be?

It is much easier as a DIY project to do solar lights, do you get sunlight to that area or is it shaded? If plenty of sunlight I'd go solar for the savings on energy, ease of install. If running your own power lines I'd seriously recommend an electrician unless you are really experienced.

See now, like gmf said, it will depend on what type of sun you are getting. Do you live in an area that gets a lot of sunlight, or is it more typically darker/gloomy by you? It will be harder to install an electrical line, for sure, but it might be worth it. If you do get plenty of sun, go ahead and go out to buy some nice place and go solar powered lights.

You will probably find that walkway lighting created with solar energy is actually quite energy efficient. Think about all the electricity you will be saving when you are not using any at all from your bill!

If you do go electrical, you have a number of different options. Check out this blog post for some info on one Kichler path light

The key is finding solar lights that actually put out great light. Some do not at all. So shop around.

A compromise of sorts between electrical and solar would be to use LED path lights. These run on electricity, but are way more energy efficient than incandescent lights.

Well if he doesn't get enough sunlight on that area, LED path lights can be good to place. But if the OP doesn't know about electric wiring and stuff, he should call an electrician to install the lighting.
