we can make use of it in cleaning your car, others would used it to flush in the toilet i guess that's all i can share. big tanks are good for storage of rain waters but i've read that first rain should be disregard for the reason some of the dirt in the roof top, and the atmosphere brings waste products as to air substance coming from industries.

I do agree that we can make use of the rain water for car wash and toilet. But the question how to store the rain water is it by just taking in the tanks and is there any other real means by which we can really store the rain water efficiently

Where ever we have a roof or slab on the building we have to try to collect the rain water from those places using pipes. We have to collect the water and then store it in the water tanks which is better to be below ground with may be a overflow point which is also below the ground so that if the water in the tank fills the water goes to the ground water level

i read an article about an individual who collected rainwater and stored them in tanks. then, he put a faucet with filter on it, which he then used for drinking... i guess i have to look for it again.

Wow... you are really cool that you thought of saving rain water.
That's good we should save it and use it. You can collect all the water which falls on your roof via a pipe.
Put a storage tank on the ground floor and put the pipe into it.

Tanks I think are the best way to do it... And maybe big containers of water can be placed on your backyard as well...

Yes, that's really a great idea to use the rain water. It is called Rain Water Harvesting, as many parts of the planet is suffering from water scarcity, by doing this you will help to fight against this. Evey one should try to get such green ideas to help the planet.

Well coming back to the topic, i think that their are many ways that you can use Rain Water. you can build an under water tank that can collect water from roof, balconies and open places. That tank can serve as a constant water supply for you and by using some technical aspects you can even generate some electricity (i think). If you get in touch with your nearest planet saving organization i think they can help you or you can get many ideas online as well.
