Mobile home flooring 2 Years, 11 Months ago Karma: 0
As we remodel our mobile home, we are going to be replacing all the floors as well. I want wood floor through the whole house. My boyfriend does not want to put the wood floor in for 2 reasons. He thinks the floors will eventually warp because we are not on a slab--just dirt that is always damp and he is worried about heat loss.

Can anybody help me out here? Do you think this is true--or do you think a wood floor would work just fine in a mobile home?

Are you saying your mobile home isn't up on concrete pillars or anything? Your mobile home is actually on the ground? Seems a bit odd, but mobile homes are not my area of expertise. More info please and maybe can help.

Wood floors in regular homes with basements, meaning there's no cement slab supporting the floor, seem to do fine, but then the subflooring might be different from that used in mobile homes.

In your shoes, I wouldn't invest in wood floors for a mobile home, but check with mobile home manufacturers because there may be some options out there, specifically for mobile homes.

My mobile home is up on cement blocks, but there is not a cement pad underneath. The cement blocks sit on top of dirt--very damp dirt.

I so want wood floors--but it is looking like I am going to have to go new carpet instead.

I'd rather stay on the safe side. Wood could very well easily warp without the proper foundations and the the issue of heat loss is also highly possible

I agree, wood could really warp easily with dampness under the home.
