Bedroom Budget

It is important to create an environment in your bedroom that says something about you, where you can be yourself. This is also true if you are decorating a bedroom for your son or daughter. No matter what age they are, they certainly have an idea of how they would like to express themselves.

Decorating a bedroom does not have to cost a fortune. In fact, here are some decorating ideas for a bedroom with a budget that will turn your bedroom into a luxurious retreat or your child’s room into a dream room.

  • Paint the room. This is an automatic uplift and is the essence of creating an atmosphere you wish to create.
  • Dress up your windows without sewing. Add a plain, yet colored shade to your window. Add fabric to the shade. Over the shade, mount a curtain rod. Use your shade as a back drop and add anything that will provide a valance effect. Some bedroom decorating ideas for the curtain rod include: tie ribbons of all colors and widths to the rod and allow them to hang down in front of the shade, tie ribbons to your favorite stuffed animals and tie them to the rod, hang airplanes, hang your name, drape a long piece of sheer fabric, bright fabric or two sheer colors (whatever describes who you are), etc.
  • Use sheets as curtains. For kid’s rooms, this is a less expensive way to get the perfect Tinker Bell or Star Wars room. For adult’s rooms, sheets come in all kinds of colors and patterns. Just slide a curtain rod through the large hem of a pair of twin sheets.
  • Drape your bed to add elegance and relaxation to your room.
  • Instead of changing your entire bedding, which can be expensive. Add a solid blanket to the foot of your bed to break up the usual pattern of your bed. Change out your pillows or simply add one long pillow for a less cluttered atmosphere. Purchase different shams for the pillow and change it out occasionally.
  • Add a headboard to your bed, instead of purchasing an entire new bedroom outfit.
  • Add small accessories, such as a new vase of flowers or lamp to change the look and feel of the room.
  • Rugs are excellent ways to change the look of your room. Here are many colors, styles, shapes and sizes to choose from. To add a rug to the carpet, get a rug underlayment to prevent the rug from creeping.
  • Finish up your room with crown molding or other bedroom decorating ideas. There is a new easier way to add crown molding to your room. It can be cut with household scissors, instead of a saw! It can be pre-finished or it can be painted. The best thing about this new product is there are no special tools required. Just peel and stick. Wallpaper borders are great. How about sponge painting or stenciling? There are many inexpensive ideas you can do to finish off your new room.
  • Decorating a bedroom on a budget can be a lot of fun. Get your creative juices flowing and create the bedroom you or your children have always dreamed of.
