Portable air conditioners are perfect for those rooms that do not have a window to support a window air conditioner, do not have a central air conditioning unit, or have no other means of cooling.  Portable air conditioners can be transported from room to room or even outside of the home, such as an office, dorm, or cabin.  They are lightweight and are generally attached to a caster, which makes it easier for moving from place to place. More Benefits for Portable Air Conditioners

Aside from the fact that they are easy to transport and do not require installation, they can also save you money.  Portable air conditioners are energy efficient; therefore, they can save you a lot of money on your electric bill every month.  Portable air conditioners also act as a dehumidifier for the room it is located in.

Importance of Choosing the Right Size Unit

Portable air conditioners come in different sizes depending on the size of the room you need to cool down.  It is important to choose a unit that is not too big, nor too small for the room you are intending on cooling.  Purchasing a unit that is too small will not give you the cooling you expect and need; therefore, the room will still be warm.  Portable air conditioners that are too big for a room will make the room muggy and damp.

Features of Portable Air Conditioners

Portable air conditioners generally come with an exhaust hose.  This hose needs to be used near a door or window or some other source that leads to the outside to remove the hot air from the room.

It may also come with a tray or small bucket.  If so, you may need to empty the water that is created from moisture pulled from the air by the unit every 8 to 12 hours.  Some may only need to be emptied once a week if the tray is larger.

Types of Portable Air Conditioners

  • Single Hose Units – These units require only one ventilation hose to allow the hot air to be vented out of the room.  It is generally positioned in the back of the unit.  Single hose portable air conditioners are best for small rooms.
  • Dual Hose Unit – These units have two hoses and allow the hot air to vent from the room at a much quicker pace.  One hose acts as a ventilation hose and the other bring the cooler air from outside and disperses into the room.  This helps to cool the room much faster.
  • Split Configurations – These units have a compressor and an evaporator.  There are actually two houses for these features and they are connected to each other through pipes.  This tends to be the highest quality of all portable air conditioners.  They are not as noisy as the single or dual hose portable air conditioners.  Another benefit is there is no water drainage required.  While this is a high quality unit, some people are not able to use this type because it has to be installed near an outside area and can’t be placed within the room itself.

Portable air conditioners are an excellent source for cooling your home this hot, summer.
